Packaging
Sodium Propionate is usually packed in woven bags with plastic liner or paper bags.
Storage
Sodium Propionate should be stored in its original packaging or in a suitable closed container, and placed in a dry and clean place. Storage conditions are generally best in places with little temperature change and low humidity. The product is prone to caking when in contact with water or other liquids. Under normal handling conditions, Sodium Propionate does not pose any health hazards. Necessary measures must be taken to avoid contact of solid or liquid with skin or eyes. Avoid high-density exposure to air under conditions of good ventilation.
First-Aid Measures
Eye contact: If it comes into contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water, keeping the eyes open if necessary, and seek medical advice.
Skin contact: Wash with water and remove contaminated clothing. Wash clothing before next use.
Inhalation: Move to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen and seek medical advice.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water, drink plenty of water, and seek medical advice.
Fire Hazard
Sodium Propionate does not pose a fire hazard.
Applications
Mainly used as a preservative in food industry (e.g., bread, pastries), feed additive, in pharmaceutical industry as drug formulation, and also in cosmetics and personal care product.
